Episode 5 talk (“Never Kill a Boy on the First Date”)! Listener feedback! Come on in!
Hi guys.
I want to start off by saying that I respect everyone in the Buffy fandom, as well as all the cast and crew who have worked with Joss. I’m not a podcaster myself, so I am all the more appreciative of the podcasting community. I sincerely thank you for putting in the effort and making this podcast.
But I was very, very disappointed when I heard Koko call Nick Brendon a “loser” in this episode. I don’t know if you meant it jokingly or not, but either way, it was simply uncalled for and extremely disrespectful.
Again, I want to thank you for the first few episodes of the podcast and let you know that I respect and admire podcasters, because I think that for the most part, they are people who are willing to go the distance and freely share their thoughts and insights. That’s why I’m waffling on whether or not to hit submit on this negative comment. But as of now, I’m sorry- You’ve just lost a listener.
Hi Jenny,
Thanks for your comment! We were going to record a new podcast episode, with our responses to your comment, tonight, but we’re having technical difficulties and will be delayed a few days. We may have to give up on the weekly schedule because between work, school, etc. we only seem to have time to do the podcast every 10-14 days.
Anyway, I didn’t even notice the comment you’re referring to at the time. I respect Koko’s opinions, but for my part I don’t think Nicholas Brendan is a loser in any way.
He had a major role in one of the great series of our time. This is more than 99% of actors can claim. (Not that they’re losers either, but hopefully you get my point.)
Also, Koko obviously has a strong negative reaction to Xander, the character. Many other people, including me, have strong sympathies with Xander. To me, the ability to create a character that elicits intense reactions (positive and negative) is another sign of a talented actor.
Anyway, we aren’t professional broadcasters so we may let off-the-cuff, undiplomatic things slip once in a while. But it’s in the spirit of open, fun discussion about one of our favorite shows. We hope you’ll reconsider about sticking with us!
Dave
